The technology was actively promoted in Switzerland in 2007–2008, including a Swiss Post advertising stamp [2].
Technical specification
A BeeTagg code uses a hexagonal cell pattern reminiscent of a honeycomb, in contrast to the square modules of conventional 2D codes [1]. Implementations
connvision offered the BeeTagg Reader as a free phone app, and the reader supported multiple symbologies — BeeTagg codes alongside QR Code, Data Matrix, and EAN/UPC linear barcodes — with utilities to save decoded contacts, events, and other data [3]. The BeeTagg QR Reader was distributed on iOS and Android app stores under connvision AG [3]. Comparison
Against QR Code and Data Matrix, BeeTagg's honeycomb geometry was its main differentiator and its main liability.
