QRIS Tap
Overview
Note on classification. This entry was originally bucketed as a QR standard, but qris tap is not a QR-symbol standard — it is the NFC extension of QRIS (not a QR). Reclassified as
NFC. The wiki shows no playground because there is no QR payload to encode; the slug is retained to avoid breaking incoming links.
QRIS Tap is Indonesia's NFC-based QRIS payment system extension, officially launched 14 March 2025 by Bank Indonesia (BI) [1, 2, [id-cro]]. QRIS Tap combines QRIS Consumer Presented Mode (CPM) with Near Field Communication (NFC) — enabling users to simply tap their smartphone to a scanner to complete transactions, without manually scanning a QR code. QRIS Tap transactions take ~0.3 seconds — far faster than manual QR scanning, designed specifically to address high-volume transaction scenarios like public transportation.
The structural significance: QRIS Tap is built on qris's established foundation (Indonesia's unified QR standard launched 2019) — extending QRIS into the NFC-tap-to-pay era. 15 banks + financial institutions supported QRIS Tap at launch including major Indonesian banks (BCA, BNI, BRI, Bank Mega, Mandiri) + major e-wallets (Gopay, ShopeePay, DANA). Initial Android availability with iOS planned later. 30 October 2025 expansion: BI launches QRIS Tap In & Out for 5 modes of transportation in Jabodetabek (Jakarta metropolitan region) — extending QRIS Tap to public-transit fare payment including trains, buses, MRT, LRT. QRIS Tap is structurally one of the fastest national-payment-system iteration cycles in Asia — from QRIS (2019) → QRIS Tap NFC (March 2025) → QRIS Tap transit (October 2025) in 6 years.
