NPS Fiji
Overview
Note on classification. This entry was originally bucketed as a QR standard, but Nps Fiji is not a QR-symbol standard. It is reclassified as
National switch— a fiji national payment system (oct 2024). The wiki shows no playground because there is no QR payload to encode; the slug is retained to avoid breaking incoming links.
NPS Fiji (National Payment System) is Fiji's central-bank-coordinated national payment infrastructure, operated by the Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) under the National Payment System Act 2021 and Regulations 2022 [1, 2, [fj-cro]]. The structural milestone: November 2023, RBF Governor Ariff Ali announced the go live of the NPS Phase 2 Automated Clearing House (ACH) — enabling 24/7 instant interbank transactions between Fijian banks. NPS Phase 2 represents the modern instant-payments-rail era for Fiji.
The QR-payment landscape: Vodafone introduced QR payments in 2019 (m-paisa-qr), Digicel later launched mycash and became the first Fijian provider to issue personal QR codes to all customers for instant P2P transfers. RBF is working on a single standardised QR code that works on all payment apps — Fiji's national-unified-QR initiative, similar to peer national QR rollouts like sgqr SG, twqr TW, ethswitch-qr ET. 5 licensed Payment Service Providers currently offer QR + digital-wallet services in Fiji under the NPS Act 2021 + 2022 Regulations licensing framework. NPS Fiji represents one of the Pacific Island Forum's payment-system-modernisation success stories — Governor Ali was prominent at the Pacific Fast Payments Workshop advocating for the broader Pacific payment-system development.
