Masterpass QR
Overview
Masterpass QR was the QR payment scheme of Masterpass (Mastercard's digital wallet service), enabling QR code payments at merchants across its supported markets. Masterpass QR allowed customers to scan merchant QR codes and authenticate payments via their Masterpass wallet, linking to their linked bank accounts and cards. Masterpass was integrated with major South African banks and merchants.
QR Format
Masterpass QR used QR Code symbology with a Mastercard-specific UR payload (URL QR). The QR payload contained the Merchant Reference ID (MRID), transaction amount, and Masterpass authentication data.
Status
Note: Mastercard announced the discontinuation of Masterpass in 2023, transitioning users to other checkout solutions.
